It's time for another update on my life in Costa Rica!
During the week, I basically just go to school. My classes are really cool and interesting! I have a lot of homework but it's manageable and usually on stuff that I am interested in. I can't be too upset about having to write a paper on dolphins! Costa Rica is an amazing place to study Biology though. The biodiversity here is incredible and there is no better place to study.
Two weekends ago, I went to Jicaral on the Nicoya Peninsula with my host family to visit their daughter's family. We took a ferry across Golfo Nicoya. It was only an hour long ferry ride but I got really, really sunburnt! The Nicoya Peninsula is beautiful. It is warmer than San Ramon. On Saturday, I got to see wild monkeys for the first time! There were about 30 howler monkeys in the trees across from my host sister's home. IT WAS SO COOL. The next day we went to a beach called Roma del Mar. It was beautiful. We went swimming and exploring. Unfortunately, my camera died shortly after arriving to the beach so I didn't get many pictures. Three sting rays swam within a few meters of me! It was incredible- not scary at all! I also saw a lora (also called a parrot snake). It is a bright green tree snake with a black band across its eyes. I don't have a picture but you can Google it. I had a great weekend seeing a part of Costa Rica that is not all tourist-y.
This past weekend I went back to La Fortuna. I went with four of my friends. We stayed at Gringo Pete's Too again. The other girls climbed Cerro Chato, but I stayed back. After climbing it a few weekends ago, I was not ready to do it again. That is a hike that I would maybe do every time I forget how bad it was haha That evening we went to the Tabacon hot springs (the ones I went to before). I also had pizza for the first time since I've been in Costa Rica. I miss pizza so much! It wasn't Hungry Howie's (my favorite!) but it was still pizza. On Sunday, we went to the waterfall at Rio Fortuna and went swimming. This is also the place I went to before. We took a bus back to San Ramon in the afternoon. It was a really nice, relaxing weekend! But I am really glad I have Mondays off. It gives me a another day to relax and do homework before starting the week again.
Every day I am grateful that I have the opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica. It is definitely one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Pura Vida!
